Who is the St. Lucia Employers' Federation?
The St. Lucia Employers' Federation is the leading employer representative body in Saint Lucia, supporting businesses with advocacy, resources, events, and professional development. Their membership spans private sector companies, business owners, and industry leaders across the island. As their membership grew and the demand for virtual access and online resources increased, SLEF needed a digital infrastructure that could match their ambitions and serve members wherever they are.
The challenge
SLEF had an existing website but no way for members to register, log in, pay dues, or access exclusive content online. Membership management was handled manually, event registrations were difficult to track, and there was no central place for members to engage with the Federation's resources. They needed a secure, scalable portal that reflected the professionalism of the organisation and made life easier for both members and administrators.
The solution
We built a membership portal integrated directly into SLEF's existing website, putting member access, payments, and engagement front and centre:
Secure member accounts: A login and registration system with email verification, giving members a personal dashboard to view account details, payment history, and exclusive content — so every member has a home base on the platform.
Payments and membership management: Integration with the Orbtronics payment aggregator to handle dues and purchases for both in-person and virtual members, with automated receipts, payment confirmations, and an admin interface to track membership status and collections.
Content and courses: Member-only access to documents, templates, blog posts, and course listings with purchase controls, so SLEF can monetise and distribute their resources with ease.
Events and communication: An interactive events calendar where members can register and pay for workshops and events online, plus automated email notifications via SendGrid to keep the membership informed of new posts and announcements.
Surveys and feedback: A built-in survey and polls module — integrated with Google and Microsoft Forms — so SLEF can collect member input and export responses directly from the admin panel.
Admin portal: A comprehensive backend giving the SLEF team full control over members, payments, content, and feedback, without needing developer involvement for day-to-day management.
The portal gives SLEF a single, credible platform to manage their membership, deliver value to members, and scale their offerings as the Federation grows.

How we did it?
Strategy: We aligned with the SLEF team on their member types (in-person, virtual, and admin), core goals (dues collection, content access, event management), and the admin workflows that needed to move online. We structured the portal so the most important actions — joining, paying, and accessing content — were simple and immediate.
Design: We built a custom interface matched to SLEF's existing brand and site design, with wireframes for all key portal pages — dashboard, member profile, payments, events, and documents — and a mobile-first layout that works for members accessing the portal on any device.
Development and launch: We followed an agile approach with bi-weekly sync meetings, phased feature delivery, and regular demos so the SLEF team could give feedback throughout. All code was maintained in a private GitHub repository with full client visibility. We supported launch, member onboarding, and admin training to ensure a smooth handover.
Outcome: SLEF now has a professional, fully functional membership platform that removes the manual overhead of member management, makes it easy for members to join and stay engaged, and positions the Federation to grow its virtual membership and digital offerings with confidence.
