The esteemed WADE Scholarship actively recognizes exceptional students worldwide. It offers them a chance to attend the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Focused on promoting diversity and inclusion, the scholarship propels talented individuals into successful careers in various fields.
This year, Saint Lucia's Keeghan Patrick has received the 2022 WADE Scholarship. His dedication to academics and commitment to positive change earned him a spot among MIT's brightest minds.
The 2022 Wade Scholars hail from national and global universities. American recipients represent UC Berkeley, Claflin University, Howard, and MIT. International awardees come from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (Ghana), the University of the West Indies (Caribbean), and China University of Petroleum (China).
These scholars will study chemical engineering, computer science (2), management science and engineering, and mechanical engineering (3). Keeghan earned his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering at The University of the West Indies. He will pursue a master's degree in the same field at MIT.
Keeghan envisions a transformed Caribbean. He wants to focus on technology rather than traditional reliance on tourism. By investing in STEM opportunities, he aims to advance the region's professionals and the population as a whole.
As a Wade Scholar, Keeghan hopes to bridge the gap between his philanthropic vision and the reality of the Caribbean's technological lag. He wants to increase access to STEM disciplines for Black youth, fostering scientific, financial, societal, and cultural growth.
As 2022 WADE Scholarship recipients, the scholars will join MIT's esteemed community. They'll access cutting-edge resources and facilities and engage with leading experts in their fields.
Known for its strong emphasis on collaboration and innovation, MIT provides the perfect environment for recipients to develop their skills and passions. With a diverse and supportive community, they are poised for success.
